EuroSys'20 Presentation on Near-Storage Computing with Metal FS
Metal FS offers a low-programming interface to FPGA-powered near-storage compute by representing data items and compute kernels in a Linux file system. We presented our framework at EuroSys'20.
For developers of future database and data streaming applications, near-storage compute co-processors, which reside on the data path between storage and system memory, can improve response latencies and energy efficiency.
Since the development and integration of FPGA-based co-processors in general is difficult for software programmers, we provide an abstraction of compute kernels on the FPGA and offer a mechanism to orchestrate near-storage compute pipelines using familiar Unix shell syntax.
