64-Bit Lab

In order to investigate interoperability and portability issues in heterogeneous computing environments, our group operates a laboratory comprised of current 64-bit based systems. The lab is open to Software Engineering students at HPI and to research partners.

The lab is currently used for a number of research and teaching activities, among them:

  • Extending the reach of Grid Computing (i.e.; Globus) into 64-bit environments
  • Studying of backward compatibility approaches (i.e.; 32-bit emulation)
  • Compiler evaluation and benchmarking
  • Porting of GNU software onto 64-bit architectures
  • Predictability evaluation of multiprocessor/multicomputer scheduling mechanism
  • Monitoring and management of 64-bit server operating systems
  • Operating System Virtualization
